Public school prep speeds up as high school adds classes
Carpenters install a partition in the auditorium to create two seventh grade rooms. Two teachers will join the seventh grade next session and the eighth grade will use the former seventh grade room. Campaign for County Officers Opens in Calhoun Falls
Campaign for county officers launched in Calhoun Falls at 11 am with candidates for Congress solicitor House of Representatives Clerk of Court Sheriff Superintendent of Education County Supervisor Sub-supervisor and Coroner. A peaceful meeting drew about 200 voters as candidates urged support and voters prepared to file pledges for Tuesday primary August 8 with ballots for district and county offices.

Col D H Wise dies after 43 years as Aiker County auditor
Col D H Wise aged 68 died yesterday afternoon at an Aiken hospital. He is survived by his widow and one daughter. In Tennessee the lower house adjourned without voting on a woman suffrage bill after Senate passage. Governor Cooper wired Southern governors to attend a cotton conference in Columbia on August 5. James R Copeland, brother-in-law of Joe Little, elected mayor of Clint, winning 310 to 93 and begins a fifth term in Laurens city government.

In Abbeville the heaviest storm in memory drenched the city on Monday afternoon. Torrential rain flooded public streets, damaging sidewalks and crops in a small area, with losses estimated around two to three thousand dollars. Lightning struck a Fort Pickens house, shocking resident Tom Culbreth, while no fatalities were reported.
