T M Miller city alderman and merchant was stabbed twice by Reuben Hill a 21 or 22 year old black man after demanding payment for a debt. Hill fled as a posse pursued and a $25 reward was posted for his arrest by Chief J L Johnson. The wound was serious but not life threatening. lynch fears were reported if captured.

Negroes Arrested in Store Robberies Here and at Donalds
Two men, Lewis Childs and Ernest Cosby, were arrested Monday by Officers Johnson and McLane on suspicion of breaking into and robbing Matthew Butler's store here Saturday night and Donalds store last Thursday. Stolen goods were partly recovered and linked to the pair by merchants and a witness. Both men, already out on bond for prior robberies, are in the county jail awaiting grand jury action.

The City Council met in monthly session Tuesday night and heard reports from the Police Chief Health Officers and Superintendent of the Water and Electric Plant. An ordinance requiring all property owners on paving streets to connect to water and sewer systems was passed and ordered. Additional ordinances dealt with fire engine right of way and building code reporting. The square paving plan and gravel use for Lane Street were approved, with sewer work ordered for Mrs DuPres residence. An underground wiring study was ordered for the square area and business district, and Clerk Perrin was authorized to borrow 4000 for current city expenses.

Henry Hinton Ends Own Life in Abbeville Mystery
Henry Hinton 27 of Greenwood shot himself on a Gordon home porch after his sweetheart Eliza beth Gordon rejected his marriage proposal. A former guard with the 118th Infantry recently returned from overseas, Hinton had accompanied Henry Stockton of Greenwood. The coroner ruled death by suicide and the body was sent to Greenwood for burial.
