Washington August 1. Prices paid to farmers and cotton planters nationwide averaged one tenth of one percent less on August 1 than a year ago. The department of agriculture based the figure on crops representing over three quarters of the total crop value. Prices for corn, wheat, oats, rye, flax, potatoes, hogs, chickens, eggs, and hay showed small year over year changes with notable shifts in oat and potato values. Overall conditions on August 1 were 126 percent of the prior year’s level, with slight improvement in the national average.
