Honey on the stalk on farm at Ninety Six
Greenwood August 12 L M Moore of Ninety Six explains bees took a cotton stalk in his field and began making honey on the stalk to relieve the sugar shortage. A swarm on a gallon bucket has a large ball of honeycomb and bees fill it with honey as Moore hopes to breed bees that produce honey on the stalk after boll weevil damage.

Polish sister in Minsk relays 1914 wartime family letter
Mrs. Poliakoff of This City received the first letter from her Polish relatives since 1914. The message says their home near Minsk was burned in clashes between Poles and Bolsheviks and the family fled to live with a sister in Minsk. Shoes cost over $300 in Minsk and roubles are worth about seven cents in American money amid shortages and Bolshevik control.

Ticket plans made by railway executives on fare refunds
Washington August 12 proposals for handling tickets return coupons and a Pullman car bought before the new fare dates were filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission by the Association of Railway Executives. Proposals include honoring one way tickets en route to destination with no extra charge and honoring partially used round trip or tourist tickets under their original tariff.
