Two Young Men Drown While Saving Friends in River
In Abbeville and Mt. Carmel a deep river current claimed Calhoun Cason and William McCelvey after a rescue attempt at the Savannah River near Millwood. Julian Wilkinson saved Mary Perrin, while Cason and McCelvey perished. Cason was 25, a long-time post office worker, and McCelvey was about thirty.

Charles Becker was executed in the electric chair at Sing Sing Prison Ossining N Y for the murder of Herman Rosenthal the New York gambler. He faced the death chamber calmly with a photo of his wife on his shirt and protested his innocence to the end. Three shocks were administered before death at 5 55 A M.
