Crowds at the C P R depot welcome Lieut J C de Balinhard returning from front line duty and wounded in action. The Mayor and town officials join a parade as he thanks Yorkton for support and looks forward to returning to service when recovered.
The board’s council meeting was held today with Pres. Hard ee em presiding. The report of the nominating committee was adopted and sub-committees were appointed as Mercer Wilson E.S. Pearson Tennant McLean and others in Transportation and Municipal and Legislation.
The MacKenzie District Conservative Association held its annual meeting in Canora on 1 March. Officers were appointed including President Sireil Patrick and Vice-Presidents W. Me Treas and W. B. ms. Members were elected to represent different sections of the constituency.
Sunday at the People’s Forum Dr Patrick argued for party government amid a crowded teen hall audience chaired by J Mills. Miss Currie led the seloiest with Dr Jenmenes. A St Patrick themed Silver Musical Tea hosted by Mrs. Knox on March 21 raised 33 dollars for the local LO.D.E. The event featured a green and white decor scheme, a tasting table run by Mrs. Hukins and Mrs. Christoph, and musical contributions by Mr. McGuire Mrs. Andrews and Mr. Wedderspoon. Guests included Mesdames Vanstone McGuire Johnson Patrick Dow and Misses Johnson Vanstone Patrick Dow. Proceeds included receipts from Canada War Cake sales and patriotic knitting needleholders.
The council plans a joint meeting with the School Board after agreeing on changes to town power and water supply. A settlement settles a claim from J. A. for 865000 in full against prior 1876.90, and Electrical Macher ton's service continues at 125.00 monthly until June first and 145.00 thereafter.
Snow covers almost every county in England causing travel hardships and floods in low-lying areas. Fire swept the Veregin district starting about 5 am in the Cohen Breated general store in the A. Macdonald Co. block and spread to the Semple block. Both premises were consumed including Bel drug content Pet Olas and Dutaa implement warehouse.
Increased demand for service prompts Yorkton Rural Telephone Co to run two additional wires from town to relieve pressure on the existing line.
A provisional Free Trade movement has formed in Winnipeg to organize a convention at an early date. The group plans publicity and detailed prep work and has sought support from leading free traders in the West. Responses are enthusiastic with broad cooperation offered and about 1000 dollars already subscribed. The effort aims to show strong public support for trace freedom as the movement progresses.
Severe storms disrupted GTP service between Regine and Melville last week with no regular trains running after Tuesday. Regular service resumed yesterday but a freight wreck near Gladstone further delayed the Winnipeg local to about 10.30 Saturday morning.
The Honor Roll of Methodial Church volunteers for active service will be unveiled Sunday evening with Capt Tendall presiding. A soldiers choir is expected to provide the musical portion of the service on that date in April.
