Grand jury seats include Newitt and Seaney. Locals James Jeffries retires. Kirkpatrick and Erwin merge livery and freighting businesses. Bishop Dontenwill visits. Ymir mine trip noted.
W Waldowson of Nelsenate of Vinio and Miss Math Tipping of Stockport England wed in St Saviour church with Rev Graham officiating. Bride arrived from England and was met at Kootenay Landing. They plan to reside on Victoria street after a wedding supper at Strathjeona.
C A Brown, who went east six months ago, returns to town on Tuesday and plans to proceed to Led Ley City to seek work at the Nickel Plate mill. M. J. Grimmett, Grand Wedge A. F. and A. M. of British Columbia, and district deputy G. M. for the district, paid an official visit to Ymir Lodge No. dl A P. and A M. on a Tuesday last. After the lodge meeting, members and visitors enjoyed supper with toasts. A. French of the Yuir Bakery catered and provided a first class table.
The Broken Elegy Co. has three carloads of concentrates ready for shipment. Arlington mine begins sealing ore this week and is in good shape. Canadian King mine at Erie will start shipping in a few weeks. A five compressor plant is ordered for Wilcox mine by the Broken Hip Mining and Development Co. Rd. Peters reports a large body of high grade ore on the New York Central Group with samples shown in Percy J. Gleazer's office. Drifting continues on the Mother Lode, twenty feet between wills, with a porphyry dyke and oxidised zones carrying gold silver lead and zinc.
The member for Ymir, Harry Wright M L A, actively presses the government and the Kootenay Shingle Co. to resolve the Japanese worker question at Salmo while noting the company’s legal rights. He has secured a $10 500 district road and trail appropriation, up from $8 000, and is surveying roads with Gold Commissioner Henwick to direct future spending.
Reports from the Yankee Girl and Kootenay Belle mines show strong ore prospects and plans for expansion under bonds to Spokane. the Queen mine may be reopened if the Belle is taken up. A Montreal Gazette analysis praises British Columbia finances, noting heavy deficits, debt per capita, and progress under Mr Tatlow and the McBride government toward stability and future revenue from Fraser River bridge.
Lton, Riva McBride reports that the mining sector remains prosperous but divisions persist over the two per cent tax. The Provincial Mining Association and operators fail to produce viable substitutes, so the Mineral Act will be left intact for now to encourage investment and avoid destabilizing changes.
