Summer heat and dust disrupt town life in Yea area
The week opened with oppressive heat and dust storms that unsettled outdoor workers. Local headlines note health concerns, preparations for the Presbyterian Sunday School anniversary, and the departure of Mr Maher from Yea to start a bicycle repair business in Kyneton. A Yarra Glen man, William Hartrenres, fractured his collarbone after a bicycle accident near Mr Quinlan’s home, with Dr Shields providing treatment. Alex Kidd of the North Eastern Sawmill sustained knee injuries from a log mishap, also treated by Dr Shields. Mansfield Courier reports show donations to the Yea Show and details on the Mansfield wool clip as a show highlight.

Progress Association Elects Officers Amid Local Developments
The first meeting of the Progress Association elected officers for the year, naming J. D. Callaghan as President and W. Danlophon as Vice President. Discussions covered telecommunication with Melbourne, stock traffic, beauty-spot photos, and closer settlement while plans proposed monthly meetings. The Chronicle hired G. Unckell to boost staffing, Hockell joined the brass band, and a single tender for high street brick premises was deemed insufficient. Shearing advances produced strong wool yields and payables, with detailed averages for wool and sheep. The Yea Masonic Lodge installed new officers led by WM A Hunter and a banquet followed. A Melbourne court heard May Wilson receive a suspended two-year term for obtaining goods by false pretences.
