Nothing in the Sermon on Nothing and Progress Reflections
A 1935 Manning River note recalls a NSW minister who preached extemporaneously on the idea of Nothing, recounting a Sabbath miscue where a sealed envelope contained only a blank page. The tale muses that Nothing created and sustained humanity, then expands into a critique of talent, culture, and public life, naming James Martin and other figures as examples of striving through humble origins to reach power.
