Remembrance of Mr. Ernest Hope Sharman of Wandewarra

Mr. Ernest Hope Sharman of Wandewarra died at his Newtown home in Sydney aged 65 after four years as an invalid. Survived by wife and eight daughters, one daughter predeceased him. Funeral held at Rookwood Anglican cemetery. Married 1884 to Miss Howlett, with seafaring life aboard the Alexander Newton and later voyages to the Clarence River and Mauritius. The May Newton disaster coastal history is noted as a distant tragedy in the family’s early Manning region.

Death of Valentine Weber at Manning River area

The death occurred Thursday week at 4 pm at the home corner High Street and the OW Thonee-Wingham road of Valentine Weber aged over 60. He resided on the Manning River for many years and farmed before turning to dairying and retirement in Taree. He leaves a large family including sons Stanley George Julian Schafer and others and several daughters. The funeral was held Friday from his late residence to the Anglican portion of the Tihonee cemetery with Rev. Walter Latham officiating.

Funeral for Horace Henry Flynn in Tamworth

Horace Henry Flynn of Tamworth, about 42, died at Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney on Sunday after heart trouble. A coddler by trade, he farmed with brother James at Goonooooroo. Survived by brothers James and Alfred and sisters Bible, W Thorne, and F Thompson. Funeral held in Catholic section of Tamworth Cemetery on Tuesday.

Captain Alexander Newton remembered as Manning shipbuilding pioneer

Captain Alexander Newton, a Manning district shipbuilding pioneer, died just shy of 91. Born in Sydney, he helped build and helm local craft including the Alexander Newton, the largest locally built vessel, and his family produced several sea certificates and shipwrights.

Fire destroys hay shed and contents at Mondroak

A large fire at Mondroak swept the hay shed and its contents including a brand new chafing wur, four or six machines, and other implements. It began around 7 pm on Wednesday, with six workers set to start Wednesday morning. Insurance covered about half the value of the loss.
