A lively city column mixes cricket milestones with social woes. Lou Benaul becomes the fourth Cumberland bowler to reach 300 first grade wickets, while local crime reports recount assaults and a surge in unacceptable acts in Sydney and surrounding districts.
The Manning Niobuletee community and Ambulance Committee entertained Dr Stokes with a formal gathering on Thursday night. Chairman Mr Coven and members presented a decorative decanter as thanks for his work, while Dr Stokes praised the district service and its firm establishment.
Wineman was appointed to the pasi linn of superintendent. He had no doubt that the service would con tinue to progress and efficiently serve the districts covered. The evening was concluded with the serving of tasty refreshments.
A farewell dinner was arranged in honor of Mr M R Buttsworth of Hannan Vale who will depart for America Canada and England mid March. He won the dairymen section of the Rural Bank Progressive Farmer Competition. The meeting in Taree was led by J H Tichundon and attended by local agricultural representatives and district council members. The group decided not to hold the dinner at Wingham on February 25 and planned a commemorative gift presentation upon his overseas trip.
