The Red Cross Society presented each with socks wristlets a housewife a cholera belt mitts and a scarf before departure. The sendoff included an oyster supper with Archdeacon Dewdney and speeches wishing them success and a safe return.

William L Weekly Literary Society Debates on Law versus Theology
The Wilkie Literary Society met in the High School on the 17th with strong attendance. A McClung was named convenor after Rothwell resigned. An impromptu debate on whether the legal profession benefits humanity more than theology drew Wright and Dredge for the negative and Laycock and Fleming for the affirmative. The next meeting on December 1st aims to host debaters from Scott to discuss whether now is opportune for the United States to enter the European War.

Excellent Fowl Supper Raises Funds at Methodist Church
Large turnout attended the basement fowl supper hosted by the Methodist church ladies on Monday evening. W C T U Meets at Methodist Church on Women’s Franchise
A W C T U public meeting in the Methodist Church basement on November 12 drew a fair crowd despite stormy weather. Field Marshal Lord Roberts Dies in France
Field Marshal Lord Roberts died in France from pneumonia on Saturday evening November 14 at 8 o clock. Born in Cawn pore India eighty two years ago he was Irish by birth. A distinguished soldier he played a key role in ending the South African war and served in the Orient. He received many decorations and was made an Earl with a fortune of 500000 dollars. His body will be laid in Westminster Abbey with full military honors on a gun carriage associated with his son’s death in South Africa.

D R Wilkie Imperial Bank chief dies in Toronto
Daniel Robert Wilkie aged about seventy six and born in Quebec in 1846 died at his Toronto residence on Tuesday morning last. He served as President and General Manager of the Loyperial Bank of Canada and held the rank of Militia Colonel. He leaves two sons and a daughter. The town of Wilkie is named in his honor and he was a benefactor to the Wilkie Public School Library. Messages of sympathy were sent from Wilkie and Toronto mayors.
