Wilkie Post Office Project Approved in Saskatchewan

Public Works tables a $406,642 total Saskatchewan expenditure for the next fiscal year and approves $815,000 for Wilkie public buildings. Funds earmarked for the new Wilkie post office on Main and Imperial opposite the Union Bank, site details noted.

Belgian Relief Raffle extended and ticket disposal urged

The Belgian Relief Raffle time limit is extended to March 1 urging those with tickets to turn in books to the Press Office by then. Only two tickets, numbers 4 and 9, have been completed with draws set for February 12 at 2 PM. E Laycock attended Kerrobert District Court regarding Peerenboom versus Mechaels. Mechaels found guilty of employing a boy under age in a pool room, verdict later reversed on appeal.

British Government Seizes Shipping Amid Parliament Disruptions

Reports state the British government will take control of all shipping as Commons sessions convene in the Victoria National Museum auditorium after the Canadian Parliament Buildings were destroyed. Forecasts warn of severe mid month storms and a Panama Canal closure lasting two months due to major earthworks. Manitoba Ministers Plan 203rd Overseas Battalion Formation

The Methodist Ministerial Association of Manitoba sanctioned raising the 203rd Overseas Battalion to be recruited in Winnipeg by Major J. E. Hansford. A suspected plot to destroy public buildings across the prairie provinces prompted military precautions. Freight coal moves favored by the C N R until coal relief hits cities. Zeppelin L-19, shot in the North Sea, is missing with all hands. its crew were found clinging to the airship balcony after rescue declined. The government calls school donations to the Canadian Patriotic Fund.

Outlaws retain hockey supremacy with Thackeray clash

The Outlaws defeated Thackeray 5 to 4 in a tightly contested game as Spooner and Generoux led scoring bursts. A subsequent Wednesday tilt on Wilkie ice drew a large crowd, with Scott contesting for long stretches but Starin and strong defense kept the Wilkie lineup ahead and the visitors loud in support.

Mrs C J Logan Dies in London Ontario

Wilkie reports the death of Mrs. C J Logan in London Ontario on February 6 following pneumonia. The widow of the late Mr Logan, she was a beloved figure in the community and a memorial service is planned at the Methodist Church next Sunday at 7 p.m.

Narrow Lake Ladies Aid Valentine Social Raises 90

The Narrow Lake Ladies Aid raised 90 at their Valentine Social hosted by J. Hyndman to aid the Ret Creas Society. Guests came from Wilkie and district for an evening of music, speeches, auctions, and bean guessing prizes won by Evelyn Hoare and William Crump. Proceeds supported society work.
