Victory Loan subscribers urged to surrender receipts for scrip exchanges

Notice reminds Victory Loan subscribers to surrender provisional receipts to banks when the next statement is due on January 2, enabling delivery of scrip certificates to subscribers. Eastbound trains are crowded with excursionists as extra coaches fill to capacity before Saskatoon. the train now has eleven coaches.

Seed Fair Highlights Dominate Wilkie Event

W G Sherwood swept all dreamed poultry prizes and the Imperial Oil special in Wilkie seed fair. He also won best dressed hog and refused 25c a pound from McKinnon and Co. Mr Speers of Scott earned best bushel of Marquis wheat. The fair showed poor interest overall. Also an order bans Canadian forces from drinking in US venues while in uniform. CPR embargo confines Alberta wheat to mills only.

Wright Holds Unionist Lead In Local Riding Returns

The Unionist candidate IL C Wright leads in the riding with roughly 186 polls reporting and a majority of about 2300 votes. Willkie ballots show H O Wright leading by 117, and Landis tally 40 to 37 in Wright’s favor. A list of polling sub-divisions follows.

CPR Plans Town Water Service to Prevent Freezing

CPR will supply town water from mains near Empire Hotel using a new 25 000 gallon tank near the coal dock with pumping from the town plant. Daily usage is estimated at 70 000 gallons requiring two fill pumps. A deep well drill was started but paused for winter. The service aims to prevent hydrant freezing during winter and early spring.
