J W Wilson about 40 died suddenly in the harness room of the Pioneer Barn Wilkie on Wednesday around 6 pm. He had been in town a year with his wife and came from Pickering Ontario. A jury was empanelled to inquire into the death and the inquiry was adjourned.

Lt Matthews visited Wilkie on Monday before departing for the firing line in England with the first Canadian Contingent. He recalls visiting Private Eric Bowen Smith in hospital in France as he recovered from minor injuries and escaped serious harm. Matthews, former Scott Herald editor proprietor, now commands a machine gun section. his wife and family live in Regina.
