War Tax on Letters Mailed in Canada 1915

A one cent war tax applies to letters and cards mailed in Canada for delivery in Canada, the United States, Mexico, or the United Kingdom and British possessions. The tax becomes effective April 1, 1915 and must be prepaid with War Stamp stamps, affixed near the address side. failure to prepay leads to the item being sent to a Dead Letter Office.

Kirkland served Knox church for fourteen years and supported church work. Olive received a gold bar pin from the Y M C E for organist service.

Quiet Saskatoon Wedding Joins Princes Enix and Forward Newman

A quiet ceremony at Mrs. A. Cutting’s home in Saskatoon united Miss Princes Enix and Mr. Forward Newman. Rev A W McIntosh of the Presbyterian Church performed the marriage. The bride wore white silk poplin and lace with pink carnations and was attended by Miss Morrison. The couple planned to reside in Wilkie after March 27.

Wilkie Forms Two Ladies Basketball Teams

Wilkie this week organized two ladies basketball teams one High School Girls team led by President Miss Irene McCallum and Captain Miss B Ferguson and a Town Ladies team led by Captain Miss Jardine with Miss Elson as secretary treasurer. The clubs will use grounds west of the old school near the tennis court as preparations begin for equipment and field arrangements before play starts.

The Saskatchewan Herald reports the Wilkie Cat Knife flyer changes: trains now run Tuesdays and Saturdays instead of Tuesdays and Fridays. A possible tri weekly service on the Cut Knife branch is rumored. Supt N K Walton of the G T P was aboard today and wire states April 5 will be the last Battleford Big River branch run, prompting concerns from the Board of Trade.
