Cafe Burgled at Opening in Wellington

Cassidy Bros reported a burglary at their Holly wood Cafe at 7 30 am with £6 in cash stolen from a front drawer. Police were notified at 8 15 am. Entry likely via a duplicate back-door key. door left closed after the thief. The common door lock could be opened by various keys, suggesting the robber knew the rear premises well and that cash was on Sunday night.

Australian POW Lists Reach Australia by Air

Australian Associated Press reports official POW rolls for Singapore prisoners sent by air via Ceylon to Melbourne, expected within days. A list naming about 4,000 POWs released from Siam is due in Canberra this afternoon, with next of kin to be notified in two or three days.

Wellington growers clash over tomato contracts delay

Mr. W Cole, president of the Wellington District Vegetable Growers' Association, complains that Federal and State officials respond tersely to tomato contract concerns.
