United Service Ball Recalls VAD Aid and Mayfair Event

A United Service Ball raised funds for the VAD and Mayfair aid drive drawing a large attendance. Uniformed men and many women in fine dress enjoyed a program of music, ballroom dancing, novelty dances, and a grand cake. Organizers Miss Paton and Captain Fy Urinkes received praise, with support from the Mayor and Lieut-Col. Brown, as the evening extended into the early hours.

Obituary: Mrs Isabella MacKenzie Ducsom Dies at 80

Mrs Isabella MacKenzie Ducsom died at a private hospital on Monday at age 80. Widowed since January 10, 19, she lived much of her life in the Panto district near Capertee and Blackman's Flat. Survived by a large family, she was active in charity and a longtime presbyterian church member. Services were held at Tuest Innt and interment followed at the church of Knalund portion.

Red Cross Wellington Meeting Reports Healthy Finances and Quota Plans

Last Friday afternoon the Wellington Red Cross Society held a meeting where the balance sheet showed a credit of £34 in the wartime account and £50 ready for forwarding to head offices. The society continues active work making garments, with next week’s quota parcel on its way and reserves enough for a second parcel. Officers and donors are noted, including Mr C Kennard securing a takeup press and several gifts for the press. A funeral service at the Wellington cemetery was also conducted by Rev. Bowen, with obsequies performed by Moore, Bhakeapenre and Sons.
