Canberra Thursday customs revenue for the first four months of the financial year shows a comparative rise of £140,124 over the same period last year. Authorities welcome the revenue gain yet worry it signals a need for stronger protection for Australian industries as imports continue to rise, even if seasonal.
The Government suffered another reverse in the House of Representatives as a Senate request to cut duty on imported axe handles was rejected by 27 votes to 24. Labour opposed the motion with support from three Country Party and eight UAP members.
