The forecast shows continued cloudiness over the eastern half with potential rain and thunder, heavy isolated falls, cooler air moving westward, and fresh southeast winds. Coastal mist and fog may develop in the south with rough seas offshore while western regions clear and cool to cold conditions prevail.

In Kelso near Bathurst yesterday afternoon Margaret Dunmore aged two lost her right hand when caught in a sausage making machine used in her father’s butcher shop. Her brother Lyle stopped the machine, a Bathurst doctor treated her, and she was taken to Bathurst District Hospital for surgery to amputate forearm tissue. She is reported as well as could be expected.

Thursday at Hembush sales the stock market showed firm demand for cattle and hogs with sheep weaker. Quality was fair and penning about 1,700 cattle yarded. Bullocks sold from 8 to 14 pounds, cows 5 to 11, heifers 9 to 10. skjø
Mervyn Augustus Lack aged 24 admitted manslaughter at Mackay Circuit Court for the stabbing death of Dorothy Elsie Duncan 19 at a Seaforth Beach holiday camp. Evidence described a friendly relationship and Lack appeared numb upon seeing another man with the girl. He was remanded for sentence.
Sidney Jones, a 34 year old motor mechanic, was charged with shooting at Nathan Segal with intent to murder. Police say Kelly was charged with a similar offence and Jones and Kelly identified as involved. Jones was remanded and bail refused.
The German Consul-General Doctor Aames plans a return to Germany in a few weeks and says his visit is unrelated to current tensions. He will also travel to Australia in October or November. Czech Consul M. Kroton will relocate to America after declining to hand over the Consulate.
New Zealand detectives arrested a man at a Parnell house, identified by fingerprints as Gordon McKay, the Australian missing since a fire destroyed a house at Pila on February 12. He wore an outward beard and was in a car with two others when seized, facing a charge of unlawfully interfering with human remains.
In Auckland, Thursday, neighbours noting a resident who never left the house at Parnell alerted police. McKay, long sought as a suspect in the Sir Guys case, was arrested following their tip.

The Macquarie presents Spencer Tracy in Royal Town with exteriors shot at Omaha and notes 212 boys at Boys Town founded by Father Flanagan. He says many have heart wrenching pasts and bold acts by youth. Health authorities warn of a measles epidemic in Victoria Melbourne with estimates that between 20 000 and 30 000 children may be affected and about 200 deaths expected before it is checked.
Minister for External Affairs W. M. Hughes warned that if current trends continue there will be little of the world left. He urged the urgent creation of an international organisation to observe law and order.
Betty’s latest Paramount film Campus Confessions plays at the Macquarie Theatre on Saturday Monday and Tuesday. Also showing is the Wheeler and Woolsey comedy Hold En Jail. Boys Town with Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney is held over for a one night screening at the Mayfair on Saturday night with a Laural and Hardy comedy as support.
