Caves Golf Course president hails the club as among Australia’s best while memberships rise. The annual meeting reviewed reports from President and Secretary W H Young and Associates’ President Mrs R A B Davidson. Opening day set for next Sunday with a 12 hole mixed foursomes event and tea. fees for non members increase.
President Cameron reports a year end membership rise to 343 and notes improvements to the Club House and grounds including a Ferguson tractor for maintenance. He recalls the Western Districts Tournament as a high point, thanks donors and committees, and urges 1954 as a record year with continued support to strengthen the club’s future.
Four bright days and cool nights gave Wellington pleasant weather. For the first time in years the three day maximums Monday Tuesday and yesterday all read 26 degrees. Minimums varied from 54 to 63 degrees. The Nap Palmer Cup hosted keen Dubbo and Wellington Club matches with strong competition and improved relations between the clubs.
The Wellington Rotary Club sponsors an appeal to aid the Wellington and District Ambulance Fund, aiming to repair the ambulance station building. J Graham expressing appreciation for Miss Darling’s garden support and friendship.
At the apartments Lesmore runs night and meeting of local rugby union players and supporters will hear about trophies won in the East premiers and West runners up. Wellington Wests premiers will receive Bullock and Manning Cups, with pockets for players. Reports of last season and plans for this season will be discussed with Harry Ivemey presenting trophies and addressing the gathering.
Wellington athletes dominated the Western Districts athletic carnival winning five titles and setting three new records. Ace of One, Tory Lay led sub-junior men with a record long jump, Elaine Brown added two titles including the sub-junior high jump, and the Wellington relay teams swept two events. Other placings came from Brown, Miller, Porter, Daley, and Hatton across sprints and middle-distance races. The club planned two more local meetings before winter recess, with point-score leaders named across divisions.
