A motion for a Government power board narrowly failed 56 to 55 after batch voting, while three Macquarie resolutions passed on landholder fire-break costs Railways fire safety and road works.

The outsider Ocean Swell scored a surprise victory at 28 to 1 in the English Derby. Teheran and Heappy Landing, both at long prices, finished second and third as the race had 20 starters and was decided by a neck with a short head separating second and third.
