Public hospital plan converts Wellington building for aged care

Minister for Health, C A Kelly, writes to M L A C G Robertson outlining a plan to develop two aged care institutions under the Commission. The Bathurst District Hospital and Newcastle Western Suburbs Maternity Hospital at Waratah will be repurposed to accommodate elderly residents, with dormitory style rooms and a separate sick bay for minor illnesses. The Bathurst home is under construction. Newcastle’s facility faces staff space shortages, delaying cottage provision for aged couples. The Commission aims to study statewide chronic care accommodation when feasible.
