At the Central Criminal Court in Sydney Judge Owen directed the jury to acquit Timothy Ryan aged 44 a labourer of murder of Eric Alfred Earleson aged 50 a seaman. The Crown alleged Earleson was kicked to death in a Redfern hotel lavatory. Ryan denied the charge.
Wellington Golf Club held 46 hole McLeod cup and 36 hole Wade cup play with 34 competitors. E J Brennan won the McLeod cup with 140 while W McAtamney captured the Wade cup at 150. N Pitt runner up at 164. Morning 18 hole handicap won by Jack Richmond 68, afternoon 18 hole handicap by N McMillen. Qualified for A grade: McAtamney Pitt Richmond Fulton Bleechmore Brown Hooper Finch. for B grade: Howland Fitzell Brennan Keble Devine McMillen Young. President M C Cameron awarded trophies and praised Brennan’s popular win.
Melbourne Monday report on the Trades Hall Council endorsing a boycott of the National Register and Supply Development Bill. A resolution adopted by executive members of unions affiliated with the Melbourne Trades Hall Council declared opposition and warned members could go to prison to block the bill.
At the Homebush sales today 2,750 head of cattle were yarded with the market firm. Bullocks sold from 6 to £131, cows £4 to £10, best beef 40/-, good quality 35/-, medium 2/-, others to 2Tis. Sheep 27,000 penned with market from 6d to 7/ better. Lambs firm. Wethers 2/- to 24/, ewes 10/- to 21/, lambs 12/- to 22/.
At Brisbane City Court Derwent Evans Arkinstall an 18 year old electrician's apprentice was remanded until June 1 in a case charging him with wilful murder of Howard Thomas Chalmers.
A commercial price listing shows varied rates for potatoes between £10 and £14, eggs, lard, butter at 16 1 2 pence, cheese from 10d to 1d, honey from 29d to 5d, maize 4 shillings to 5 shillings 2d, onions from £22 to £24, millet up to £45, chaff, wheaten, oats, lucerne from 4/6 to 7/-, and hay with lucerne to 7/- and eaten items from 5/- to 5/6.
In Canberra on Monday Mr. Menzies urged all responsible organisations to hesitate before a policy of breaking the law. He could not believe that trades unions long associated with constitutional action would commit to a boycott of the National Register Bill.

A postal official in Maryborough was arrested and charged with stealing 400 pounds in notes from a registered package sent from the Queensland National Bank to the Ips Timgoora branch. Police recovered six pounds and found more buried in a bush and in a town outbuilding.
A radio message from J. Percival aboard the flying boat Guba reports the craft, which departed Port Hedland yesterday afternoon, touched down at Cocks Island this morning.
James Buckley manager at Lakin's grocery store in Waverley admitted a man who asked for a packet of peaches. While Buckley bent to fetch matches the thief struck him and stole £20 from the till. Buckley unconscious, shop empty, theft confirmed. A meeting at Mudgee noted. Ming Hewitt won 9 hole stroke event.
Mrs. E. A. K. Wall continued her strong run by taking the 18 hole handicap competition with a net 63 after an 81-18 score last Tuesday. Representing Wellington Associates at the Western Districts Open Meeting last Thursday she also claimed the TB Cup, marking a notable triumph for her club.
Two men were detained on Saturday night and questioned over a gold robbery at the Hanne North mine in Kalgoorlie worth £1100. No charges were laid, but they were ordered to report to the police regularly.
James Giles parked on an allotment at San Souci when six men approached. One man brandished a handgun and demanded money, taking his wristwatch and some cash. As they fled, a robber warned not to pursue, claiming he had already shot one man.
