Wool Review Records Peak Australian Clip Revenue
The 1947/48 Australian wool clip is expected to reach a record £145,000,000, over double the wartime average and far above the prior year’s £92,335,940. Prices rose sharply across merino fleece types, crossbreds, and tops, with normal trading resuming and strong exports to Germany, Japan, and Eastern Europe. Wool mills expanded, employing 40,000, producing over 34 million square yards of textiles, while facing rising costs and labor shortages.
