Mr M C Cameron presented the annual Wellington Golf Club report for 1949. The report noted increased membership, finances, and planned improvements. Highlights included a strong season start on March 20, higher membership figures, a deficit covered by better facilities, and proposed extensions to the club house and roof with new caretaker quarters. Trophy winners and improved handicaps were reported as well.
The Mitchell Highway weekend toll totaled three deaths and serious injuries. Kenneth Roy Jordin, 27, of Bexley, died when his truck crashed through Dunkeld Bridge railing seven miles from Bathurst. Allan Walker, 20, of Croydon, a passenger, was trapped in the cabin and later died. he suffered a compound fracture of the left leg and internal injuries. The truck plunged about 72 feet into the embankment, and two probable cabin piercings caused deaths and injuries. Delivery duties were disrupted for Wellington and other Western centres. Two Orange youths, Robert John Stewart, 19, of Orange and Annandale, and Thomas Cummings, 18, of Orange, died when their motor cycle crashed through a safety fence at Sar Vel’s Corner on Saturday afternoon. Stewart died at Orange Base Hospital, Cummings died the next afternoon. both suffered fractured skulls. Police attributed high speed to the crash.
The Macquarie Poultry Club held its annual meeting in Africa World Hall last Friday night. Attendance was down due to influenza. Mr A E Willock was re-elected president for 1950. Patrin Tweedie Wittock and Cameron Job Bullman were named officers. The 1949 show was abandoned due to strikes and weather, but nearly 500 birds were entered for 1950, with a show planned for June 10 to 12 and two new judges to be appointed from Sydney.
Sydney passengers endured a near 24 hour halt when a goods train derailment blocked the Melbourne to Sydney line. Supplies ran short. travelers reported only dry sandwiches and scones at railway refreshment rooms while awaiting relief.
Sergeant J Kenny of Wellington Police Station receives notice of promotion to Actin Inspector and transfer to the Dubbo Police sub-district retroactive to January 23 last. A Rugby Union junior footh ball competition may begin in Wellington this year with age and weight limits set at a Baptist Hall meeting tonight. The senior competition looks strong for Neuren and Yeoval Clubs Bath, with Yeoval aiming to enter teams in both senior and junior divisions.

A three point policy favored improved distribution channels, stronger supervision, and direct access to Board members, aiming to prevent a repeat of last year's failed marketing effort.
Melbourne report details a lifesaver named George Goats from Mordiatine who saw a sailing boat overturning shoreward. He swam a mile through rough water to rescue Hawsey of Parkdale, who was unconscious and sinking and revived with artificial respiration. The other man reached shore safely.
Sydney reports another coal stoppage as all cant mines on the South Maitland field idle today following a Deputies' Association decision at Cessnock. The strike affects mines north to Gunnedah and could cost over 5000 tons of coal. The dispute centers on deputies insisting members be employed in open cut mines for safety.
The past four days brought very hot and humid conditions with highs reaching 90 degrees on Friday and Saturday. Lows stayed around 61 and 62. No rain reported at Wellington Post Office since February 18, with February total and year-to-date rainfall at nine inches.
