National Fitness Group Elects Strong Committee
The National Fitness Committee, meeting amid housing uncertainties due to SAF Building unavailability and Monarch Theatre renovations, elected a strong committee including president F L Hardwick, secretary G McAlpine, and treasurer H Graham. Over thirty locals joined from Football, Cricket, Swimming, Cycling and Apex clubs to push plans for a fully equipped town gymnasium and an indoor pool.

Six Killed as Dakota Crashes off Stradbroke Island
Six men perished when a Netherlands Air Force Dakota on a test flight crashed into the sea off Stradbroke Island near Archerfield. The victims include three Brisbane Australians V Mole Norman Dow and C Rachadours and three Dutch airmen Lieut T Smith van Durget Staff Major S Rookmaker and Sete Major H Dekema. Wreckage was not found though oil was spotted on the water after witnesses saw the plane dive and fail to reach shore.

Murder charge in Adelaide youths found guilty with mercy
A jury in the Criminal Court last night found four boys aged 13 to 18 guilty but with a recommendation to mercy for the murder of an 82-year-old news agent in Adelaide on November 19. The defendants Alwyn Ronald Vallisse McIntyre 16 Edward John Jasson 18 Peter Raymond Livingstone 14 and Terrence David Morris 13 were detained at the Government's pleasure.

Rainfall and Temperatures Mark Week at Post Office
