Japanese Convoy Destroyed in Weekend Naval Losses

A second large Japanese convoy was sunk over the weekend bringing total Japanese ships lost to 63 in past week. Nine ships including six freighters and three escorts were sunk with three more badly damaged. Earlier in the week 15 ships were sunk or damaged as part of Allied air and sea strikes in the South West Pacific and near Truk. Reconnaissance reported the second convoy dispersed for safety in coastal bays along New Britain and New Ireland.

Major Rescued After 20 Hours Under Bombed London Rubble

An army major trapped for 20 hours in a bombed London home was rescued alive by a Harley Street surgeon who lowered into a wreck shaft three times. He amputated the wife’s leg to free the major as firemen battled burning debris. A collapse later killed all but the major, leaving his aunt and a schoolteacher buried.

Australia pledges ship support for food to Britain

Sydney Thursday report says Acting Minister for Supply and Shipping Dr Evatt announced provisions exist to send all ships needed to carry Australian food to the United Kingdom. He criticized vague anonymous press statements that implied rationing would block shipments.

England Raids and Bomber Losses Amid London Attacks

An English raid involved an estimated 176 planes with many new makes capable of 400 mph. About 100 aircraft breached defenses and dropped bombs on London causing casualties, damaging property, and striking a school. Ten enemy planes were shot down. The raids are viewed as reprisals for Germany’s bombings elsewhere.
