Heroic Action by Nowra Man Reaches Drowned Body

Le Sturgess of Nowra crawled 300 feet down a Drumstick Point cliff by lantern light on Saturday night to recover Ferdinand Victor Benz the drowned fisherman from Marrickville. Benz owned the 41 foot trawler John Dory wrecked near Deryis Bay Wednesday night. Sturgess carried the body on his shoulder to the cliff top and then a mile and a half to a waiting car.

A Sydney woman’s postmortem indicates death resulted from a skull fracture. Police have not determined how she revived from injuries and consider the possibility of foul play unlikely.

District News Junior Red Cross Branch Formed

A Junior Red Cross branch was formed at the school on the 20th amid a heavy storm. Officers for the next two months were president Miss K Robinson secretary Miss E Campbell treasurer Miss H Progley. Membership of 20 is anticipated. School tests show several top placements in arithmetic composition spelling. A patriotic sports event at Bodungora raised £150 for the cause. many volunteers were praised.

German Bomber's Fate in Saturday Britain Raid

A midair explosion and showers of sparks indicate at least one German bomber was destroyed during Saturday attacks over northeastern England. Reports say one plane may have exploded in flight, marking the fourth aircraft accounted for in 24 hours. A fighter was shot down off the east coast and another bomber fell to British fire in the west.
