The government announces the Advances to Settlers Government Guarantees Act to aid farmers after poor seasons. Applications via local banks, with a Board to guarantee portions up to £2000 per settler and up to £2.5 million annually, establish a special account for approved expenditures and income as directed by the Board.
The Government Guarantee Board has begun considering settlers' applications via recommendations from the Narian Banks under the Act. Delays arise when settlers contact the Board directly rather than the Banks. Banks must be ready to receive and recommend. otherwise the Board cannot act. In hardship cases, settlers should apply to the Rural Industries Branch of the Department of Agriculture for prompt assistance with seed fodder superphosphate and stores.
At the Amaroo Shire Council monthly meeting last week the engineer reported 475 damage on the Wellington Parkes road from recent storms. The board will seek Federal Aid Grant funds to cover repairs or include them in annual maintenance. A complaint about two culverts on Vallanry Road near the Church of England prompted an inspection, and a new road plant was said to begin work once it arrives.
