Car riddled with bullets shocks Liverpool suburb

A car in Green Valley, Liverpool was sprayed with twenty six bullets while the owner was away shooting rabbits. The owner noted three youths in the area and returned to find the vehicle riddled with bullets.

Coonamble Wins Two Team Events At New Olympic Pool Meet

The Coonamble Swimming Club hosted its annual gathering at the new Olympic pool with teams from Wellington and other clubs. Coonamble No 1 won the Marcus Clark Cup over 53 1/9 yards, while Coonamble No 2 took third. in the McCany Memorial Cup teams of four Coonamble No 1 were first with Gugandra second and Coonamble No 2 third. Wellington fourth. J Casey won the 110 yards western district backstroke in 7 7/30 seconds, and Fubar claimed the 1 1/3 yards open handicap. Athol Brown placed in the novice diving event. Wellington praised the carnival’s conduct but complained of long travel. State country championships at Muswellbrook left final results unclear. F Hook of Wellington won the 110 yards championship in 7 1/6 seconds and placed second in the West 220 yard title in 2.8% seconds.

Wellington swimmers dominate Country Championships finals

Wellington representatives clinched four titles at Muswellbrook on Saturday night as F Hook won the 100 yards, 220 yards, and 441 yards events. The 111 yards breaststroke title went to Dr. Madden in an impressive Wellington display.

Alleged prison plot foiled by police in Brisbane

Police in Brisbane foiled a long term prisoner escape plan at Bog a Road gaol. They alleged the scheme involved smuggling cyanide into the jail to poison a warder and enable escape by means of a rape pre arranged inside the prison. Avman, who had been released a month earlier, was arrested and sentenced to three months' imprisonment.

Yesterday at Rygate Park the half mile handicap was won by AL Ostler and B Downey took the distance race in the 14 miles handicap. B McKay fell but was unhurt during the latter event. Brisbane Cyclone Strikes North Queensland Coast

A cyclone of terre force hit the coast between Cairns and Townsville damaging Ing ham town heavily. Winds reached 75 mph with heavy rains from Longreach. Mackay reported five inches of rain in 24 hours and Townsville saw waves drive a fleet of fishing boats ashore.

Dry spell grips the western districts with scarce rainfall

After a week of heat and rainfall above 100 degrees in the region, isolated showers reached Dubbo and Bathurst yesterday but failed to bring relief. Winds cleared the air as conditions grew drier across the Macquarie and Bell rivers, wells and dams drying, towns relying on limited tank water while western areas face strict water restrictions. January rainfall remained only 89 points with no rain reported so far this month.
