King Rest At Windsor Funeral in Solemn Procession

Moving scenes marked the king’s funeral as the procession reached St George’s Chapel. British and Chelsea officers lined steps, salvos rang out, and Queen Elizabeth placed the Grenadier Guards’ colour on the coffin. Archbishops Geoffrey Fisher and Cyril Garbett presided, with prayers and a special anthem from St George’s Chapel. The town observed half mast and sombre shopfronts as the period of mourning extended.

Wellington observes day of mourning with church services

Yesterday the allied day of mourning was observed in Wellington with morning and evening church services and a pause in sporting activity. The Cenotaph ceremony was led by the Wellington RSL with wreaths from ten local organizations, a guard march by the Wellington Citizens' Band, and a two minute silence at the National Anthem. Church bells rang Abide With Me and students from local schools contributed tributes before Benediction at St Patrick’s Church.

Tribute in Flowers Crowds at Windsor for King George VI

About 10 600 people braved rain to enter Windsor Castle as the public viewed the tribute in flowers for King George VI. Police reinforced the gates after long queues and reports say up to 150 000 visitors traveled from across Britain to pay homage. Soup and coffee were served to thousands with wreaths from foreign monarchs and governments.

Race Club Scores Another Success At Track Meet

The meet featured top Western racehorses and fast times with a strong betting ring. Comans edged Real Roll to win the Handicap in a close finish, while Nira won the first Malden division and Glen Angle claimed the second division of the same event. Bill Dimy took the Progressive Handicap, Port Star won the Improvers division by a head, and Plain Wally dominated the second division. Jockey Davis earned a double aboard Remax, while Sir Drew faded to third as Davis rode to victory with Tipple. Warnes contorted by illness after the last race as officials noted the day’s results.
