The former mayor challenges the 147 Council financial report as misleading. He notes the Town Clerk’s figures show only year end 1947 standing and lacks comparative data. He has written to the Council requesting the promised statement and says he will respond if the figures are released.
Last Wednesday the Wellington Amateur Swim Club held point score races and handicap events at Municipal Baths. Holler won with a 9.1 handicap, Brown close second. club championships followed with 400 Yards Senior Freestyle won by Dray in 7 min 58 sec and 50 Yards Junior Breaststroke taken by McGil.
Mr A Paige and Hon. Organiser of the Soldiers' Memorial Fund were surprised by a call from Mr Harry Taylor who has just returned from Sydney. State MLA Mr. O. G. Robertson stated the Wellington District Hospital will receive a subsidy rise from March 1 next, raising the eight month payment to £6,106 and the full year to £9,294 for the year ending June 30 1948. The base rate at July 1 last was £5,784, with the Dubbo Base Hospital set at £39,384 and this year £40,901.
