Mr. H V C Thorby minister for civil aviation is ill and cannot attend Federal cabinet meetings that began today in Sydney. Sir Earle Page reported Thorby’s illness had developed as a result of unspecified causes during the sessions.
A 60 year old Chinese man attacked two compatriots with a meat chopper in Tattersall's Lane Melbourne yesterday morning and then wounded himself with a razor. Police say the men were inside a house when the assailant forced entry after a dispute. All three remain in serious condition.
Italian banana and six vegetable growers on the Northern Rivers petition the State Governor Lord Wakehurst alleging that a section of the Marketing and Primary Products Amendment Act breaches the Treaty of Rome of 1883.
At Homebush sales today 2,850 head of cattle yarded with a shade dearer market. Bullocks 6 to 14 pounds, cows 4 to 10, best beef 40, good quality 85, medium 30, others to 27. Sheep 29,000 penned, good quality a little better, wethers 8 to 19, ewes 7 to 16, lambs 15 to 24.
Flour millers allege private traders were barred from handling bagged wheat in a moral manner this season. They say the Department of Agriculture tried to cram all wheat into silos but achieved disastrous results.

Thomas Lambert, 4, an engineer, was fatally injured after being struck by another bather who dived from the high platform at the Olympic pool Milson's Point. The diver was unhurt. Lambert died three hours later.

A conference in Melbourne convened by the Minister for Commerce Sir Earle Page will gather representatives from all commodity export control boards. The meeting will discuss surveying available storage space in Australia for wartime emergencies and propose inland depots to protect storage from seaboard damage.

Nichols Trade, 53, merchant, faced Sydney Central Police Court charged with conspiring to cheat Lillian Murray and others of large sums between 1934 and 1936. He was found with an unlicensed revolver and pistol threats were alleged. Remanded until February 21 in bail of £400.
The Sydney wheat market showed dull activity with new season parcels at 2/54 per bushel and bagged new lots at 2/6. Prices for potatoes, butter, cheese, maize, onions, millet, chaff, wheaten, oaten, cerne, hay, lucerne and other goods ranged across listed figures reflecting a subdued trading day.
