John Joseph O'Brien, 26, a blacksmith, was remanded at Central Police Court on a charge of leaving Maroubra armed with a revolver to rob Joseph Mallett of £23 and a revolver on October a1. The police prosecutor said two armed masked men held up Mallett. Remanded until February 8.

In Brisbane on Saturday night a woman was mortally wounded during a bold armed robbery near Dutton Park. Her husband, Steven Wan, pursued the masked trio as they escaped in a waiting car after a fierce struggle. One robber reportedly fired six shots as they fled. none struck.
At a Loan Council meeting the Premier and Treasurer of New South Wales were refused financial assistance needed to meet state obligations due. Prime Minister Lyons said Lang failed to honor promises, so the Commonwealth could not provide further help. Bavin blamed ministers’ failure to fund public obligations and urged governor action to appoint advisers. A Melbourne lawyer warned Lang could soon default, risking dissolution of Parliament. Lang had drawn 14.585 million pounds from treasury bills via an agreed discount with the Loan Council.
Walter Cowden aged 52 a motor mechanic committed suicide by weighting himself with iron and tying a sealed bottle to mark the spot where his body would be found at a dam several miles from Junee. Police later recovered the body.
Norman Hearn attacked his wife with a hammer in Sydney on Monday. The woman struggled to break free and was severely battered but is expected to recover. Hearn then took his own life.
The Catholic Church refuses to endorse a plan by W. Fountain of Mudgee and Mrs Joan Hazeltine to wed in an aeroplane above St Mary's Basilica. Archbishop Kelly says the ceremony cannot be in a reverent place and urges the couple not to marry outside the Catholic Church.
Oriel Ellard aged 25 pleaded guilty at quarter sessions to theft and house breaking. He asked for leniency citing his wife and future, but Judge Armtrong refused due to numerous prior convictions and imposed a three year sentence. Ellard then kissed his wife and told her to buck up.
Weather concerns prompted a decision in Fultive to cancel the hand’s performance if elements threatened conditions. The meeting adjourned after noting no further business, with public perception and the group’s reputation at stake.
