Regulations issued by the Federal Government at Canberra require employers to re employ reservists and volunteers for overseas service on completing their military or training duties. The move aims to protect the jobs of parsons serving in extended militia training or overseas duty.
The 32,000 ton German liner Columbus was intercepted by a British destroyer as it tried to reach Germany after slipping out of the Mexican port. The Tuscaloosa found the ship sinking outside the neutrality zone and rescued the crew.
