In the House of Representatives Mr Curtin the Opposition leader argued that public servants earning more than Federal Members had their salaries restored. Both Houses discussed removing salary reduction percentages, with ministers reacting. The government reportedly aims to consider restoring salaries to 1000 pounds early next year.
Sydney Thursday the Leader of the Opposition’s immounvament prompted debate in the Legislative Assembly over a motion to appoint a select committee to inquire into the sale of the State Monier Pipe Works, brickworks, and metal quarries. The Prime Minister Mr Stevens and colleagues weigh past refusals by Mr Lang to substantiate charges leading to a royal commission with findings that no truth supported the allegations. Stevens says action will be announced before week’s end.
Sydney officials and the Forestry Commission announce a special campaign against bush fires in partnership with the Bush Fire Advisory Committee. The program runs through the coming summer months to prevent and fight fires.

Vehicle left Jepartt, 247 miles from Melbourne, at 6.40 Tuesday night and was due in Melbourne at 6 yesterday morning. Police stations along the route told to watch.
Gordon King, reported missing after leaving Jepaiit with his truck and trailer last Tuesday, was located in Melbourne on Thursday. Police had searched the city and surrounding countryside. King claimed engine trouble and petrol shortage caused delays while unloading his consignment.
Mr Mares said the tropical disturbance caused general rain across western districts yesterday with the heaviest falls in Milparinka at 177 points and Silverton at 122. The whole country around West Riverina and the Darling was affected with light to heavy rainfall.

Perth reporter Empertor Lewis, chief of the Traffic Perion, was killed while directing traffic during a campaign against excessive speeds. The incident ended a long effort to enforce speed limits and curb reckless driving.
A North lqueenstona Airways plane carrying 85000 in gold from Penins ula goldfields Batavia crashed on landing at Calina last night. Three passengers and the pilot were slightly injured after an engine failure during approach in darkness.
A woman described as a stenographer across the city is suspected to have died from a violent attack or poison. She leaves a three year old child. Detectives interviewed several people who knew the deceased last night as part of the inquiry.
In the House of Representatives during defence estimates debate, Brennan of Victoria condemns private enterprise gun manufacture. Gullett of UAP accuses Brennan of hatred toward Britain. Brennan seeks withdrawal, Gullett insists the charge remains true. The House adjourns after an unqualified withdrawal.
The Homebush sale saw 5170 head of cattle with an unchanged market. Dub locks sold 26 to 14, cown 4 to 11, best beet 40, good quality 14, medium 30, inferior 85. Sheep crowd of 47,000 with lambs firm, sheep 1 lower. Wethers 10 to 12, ewes 10 to 18, lambs 11.
The local wheat market rose by 4d a bushel with bulk new seam quoted at 4/62 and bagged lots reaching 4/8. Tas potatoes range 3d to 9d, new laid eggs 1/2 per case 11d to 1/. butter 16d per lb, honey 2d to 5d, maize 5d, millet up to £50. Chaff 5/3 to 6/-, lucerne 4/9 to 7/6, hay 8s to 9s, lucerne 8s to 7/ per unit.
Walter Wain aged sixty nine was struck by lightning during a hailstorm while cycling with his wife at the lane. He lost clothing and was hurled about ten yards. His wife near him suffered severe burns as they sought shelter.
