Third smash and grab burglary follows pattern of thefts

A ring of Wellington thieves smashed into Mr V C Larum’s shop in Nanima Crescent and stole about £50 of goods while ignoring other valuable stock. Police believe the Sune gang are responsible for three recent break-ins, with detectives and local police continuing inquiries. The Wellington Shire Council advertises for a night watchman amid ongoing robberies and business concerns.

The Dubbo response was very satisfactory, exceeding expectations as the Gubbo Anti-TB campaign ended after a week with a total of 3617 2-Rays collected. Local officials praised community participation and effective mobilization.

Wellington Cricket Trophy Donation Sparks Local interest

Mr Ben Woods donated a large handsome cup to the Wellington and District Cricket Association to boost cricket in Wellington. Mr Jol Moore said the trophy will attract interest and foster competition. A committee meeting on September 5 will decide which competition the trophy will be allotted for. Entries for the Association Bracerlin Shield and Hardwicke Cup close September 15 with strong interest expected in both. Possible teams for the Saturday competition include Baptist, TS, Anglicans, Methodists, Technion College and National Fitness. Sunday teams may include Centrals, RSL, Dyipstone, Mumbi, Stuart Town, Yeoval and a new Court House Hotel side. A meeting of all tailer cricketers and sponsors will be held soon to continue Saturday Morning Juicy Competition. Donations for the 260 guarantee to bring Manly cricket to Wellington at Easter have been encouraging and will be published in the Times.

Flood Victim Body Still Not Found In Inland Search

A broad police and community search across Curra Creek Bell River and Macquarie River failed to locate Pearson believed drowned after his vessel washed away at Susith's Crossing Curma Creek on August 19. Wellington Returned Soldiers League members joined a search from Smith's Crossing to the Bell and Macquarie rivers while another party scoured Macquarie up to Dowd's property. Police will press on with the inquiry and rescue efforts.

Six Teams Compete In Local Polo Crosse Carnival

Six Iowa teams will compete in the biennial Bing Jang Cup carnival at Wellington Showground, hosted by the Wellington and District Polo Crosse Club. Lucky Escape From Motor Cycle Crash

A Wellington district youth had a narrow escape when the motorcycle he rode crashed through a fence on Bubla road at Mary Vale on Tuesday. Carla Torcetti suffered only minor abrasions while the bike was heavily damaged. Torcetti, returning from Qubbo with companion Stan Bodner, was thrown clear as the motorcycle ploughed through the fence and struck an iron post near the railway. Bodner transported Torrett e to Wellington Hospital for treatment and observation.

Air Link With Melbourne Established

Messrs J W Beveridge and B McDonough of Australian National Airways and Mr Les Ford visited Wellington to inaugurate the Orange to Wellington road link with the Dubbo Melbourne air service via Tarkes and Wagga. Wellington passengers depart at 11.15 am to join the Douglas Skyliner from Dubbo at 12.30 pm reaching Melbourne 4.10 pm with same day connections to Hobart Launceston and Adelaide. The service aims to boost central west NSW business, passenger and freight, with no fare discount. Dubbo fare is 7/5 single 19/10 return with freight at 6d per lb. Mr J Lewis of the Wellington Tourist Agency represents ANA locally.

Government subsidies boost district hospital costs per bed

Wellington hospital board chairman N. Ayling reported a stronger finances due to government subsidies and hospital commission grants. Costs per occupied bed rose from 14/8 to 32/6 since 1946, with 1,122 patients treated last year and 28.42 daily average in hospital. A pathologist or technician was urged to serve Wellington Hospital weekly.
