Municipal Council Supports Amalgamation Plan Despite Opposition

Wellington Festival seeks extra lights for swift street carnival

The Wellington Festival Committee asked the Municipal Council to provide additional lighting on Swift Street for Festival Week starting September 20. An auxiliary lighting plant may be used if current restrictions remain. A well attended Wednesday meeting in the Royal Hotel chaired by President Mr. Wilkins approved quotes for hunting and flags and authorised expenditure for carnival supplies. The carnival will occupy the vacant block opposite the Soldiers Club with games, stills, and Swift Street closed nightly. Decorations will be placed to attract business, and Vice Regal Ball arrangements were discussed with four to six debutantes to be presented. Other events include the Jwirette Ball at Monarch Hall and school teachers invited to attend. Military bands may perform, and Cowra Band invited for Saturday. Neivows! Sons offered free timber to support stalls and queens.

Wellington Cycle and Athletic Club plans track season start

The Wellington Cycle and Athletic Club held Friday night’s central meeting at the Royal Flot es to outline plans for a track racing season starting next month. President J Harris chaired, with 45 members urged to attend a Sunday working bee on September 15. Keith Logue won the final road race, clocking 30 minutes for 20 miles, and Val Gersbach led the Matthews Cup with 26 points as fastest time and trophy donor Bill Wagner scored 24.

Delightful weather aided a village sports day hosted by Spicer's Creek. Schoolchildren rode, competitions drew strong turnout, and ladies' committee efforts drew praise for lunch, produce stalls, and overall entertainment. Golf Work and Play Pleasantly Combined at Inks Club

Spring weather finds Golf Club members splitting duties between weed control on recently sown greens and a Sholey Canadian mixed foursome starting at 3 pm. Ten pairs competed.
