A blaze at Mount Mitchell afforestation reserve Glan Innes destroyed about 80 000 trees planted seven years ago. Authorities believe the fire started by a stray match or cigarette.
Sydney Thursday report suggests the Exe executive Council may nominate Mr Selwyn F Betts to serve as a judge assisting the chairman of the Workers' Compensation Commission. Betts is a returned soldier who has represented the Crown in criminal cases and in notable civil actions.

George Brinkley aged 59 a railway employee had both legs severed this morning when hit by a heavy locomotive at Enfield railway yards. It is believed he did not hear the approach until a few feet away. He was rushed to the hospital where he died within five minutes.
