Rescue in Botany Bay by George Gardiner
Five youths clung to an upturned boat for an hour and a half three miles from Botany Bay shore before boat builder George Gardiner of Yarra Bay rescued them. Successful Carnival Proceeds Boost Diggers Queen Fund
The Wellington carnival drew large crowds as Chips the film star and Mrs. Rafferty attended with Dr N D Barton president of the local RSL sub-branch. Miss Bonnie Newell the Diggers Queen presented a bouquet to Mrs. Rafferty and urged all to enjoy the event. Donations and patronage topped the target while Chips entertained the crowd with improvised sketches and a playful quip about “fate clinicum.” The visit ended with a dance and social mingling, then plans to travel to Sydney for Eureka Stockade filming.
