Jerome Joseph Quinlan a 53 year old night watchman was attacked by intruders who fled into the main works after striking him with a chisel and inflicting severe head injuries. He is reported to have a probable skull fracture but is expected to recover. Police are pursuing the intruders and will act if apprehended.
A Darwin union meeting last night ordered a one day strike across the Northern Territory if Minister for the Interior Mr McEwen fails to guarantee an arbitration tribunal in Darwin. Strikes spread from southern states as the dispute grows, with no clear position from official quarters on the union demand.
