Westale French frigate captured after gallant action

Plymouth Aug 29 The Westale, a French frigate, arrived yesterday. She was captured about two years ago after a bold encounter with Capt Richard Bowen commanding the Terpsichore of 32 guns off Cadiz. Aboard men were placed for prize removal but a gale and nightfall forced loss of contact. The Spanish then took the prize, later returning her to service. She attempted sea duty under Earl Viscount’s fleet but failed until last winter when she allegedly escaped under cover of darkness and sailed for the West Indies.
