Debate on Slave Carrying Bill and Seditious Societies
The report was received and the slave carrying bill ordered read a third time. A committee on suppressing seditious societies debated clauses including an amendment on inns of court lectures and exemptions for Freemasons. Provisions to prohibit cheap publications were discussed with references to 1710 pamphlets. Several bills were reported, new secrecy oaths for commissioners were adopted, and the Slave Carrying Bill passed before adjournment to Tuesday week.
