Abolition Debate on Slave Trade and Reform in Parliament
The discourse centers on ending the brutal practice of slave trading versus gradual abolition, with emphasis on immediate abolition as the safer path for colonies. Key figures argue the trade facilitates misery, while opponents urge colonial consent and staged reform. The debate references Jamaica, Africa, surgeons, and the economic ties sustaining the traffic, including a call to regulate new land cultivation and end further exploitation.

Agricultural Report for February 1799 Weather delays crop progress
February weather hindered farming with heavy soils delaying sowing and plant development. Early wheat fared better where water furrowed, clover shows a large average crop yet remains cheap, and stock suffered from continued wet and NE winds. In Lincolnshire Cambridgeshire and Ely floods forced herd movement, meat markets rise for veal and house-lamb, and wood and hop trade picks up on strong demand.
