Birds and orders at court and ships from Hanover

The morning at Windsor featured eight Hanover horses with three cream coloured replacements chosen by the King. A Court of Directors in India House discussed the Thames, Caffnells, and Royal Charlotte as ships of the current year, while Sydat Ally’s treaty terms with the Company included heavy tributes and a new brigade. A mix of royal visits, academic admissions, public warnings on safety near rivers, and reports of misdeeds and misfortune follow, including drownings, a servant scandal, and cases of suicide and illness among the notable.

Bookshop suspect jailed. river tunnel proposal advances

Mr. Jordan, a bookseller convicted for selling Wakefield's Answer and other works, was arrested on a Judge's warrant and remanded to Newgate after bail was not posted. Plans for a Gravesend to Tilbury tunnel under the Thames, built with key-stone cylinders and a 16 foot diameter, propose a 900 yard shaft, lighted road and drainage, with an estimated 16,0001 cost to be funded by tolls. Reports also note a fire on the Walmer Castle at Deptford injuring two crewmen, trials at Chelmsford, and Brentwood fair cattle prices mixed amid high stock demand.
