The Two Neighbours and the Rose Tree Tale
A Danish tale from The Miscellany recounts sparrows and a mother sparrow their trials as boys trap and ill-treat a bird. A soap seller gilds the sparrow, the group of birds roams cities, and time passes. The story ends with sparrows visiting Thorvaldsen’s tomb and a rose bush planted over his grave becoming a sign of renewal and memory.
