Trade and Comm eeach. Orry Thursday

A general impression has prevailed since Tuesday that major changes loom in the country’s administration. Reports of offices being filled or vacated have checked market activity and clouded stock and security markets. Bank of England is said to restrict discounts while maintaining client securities, with no material change in money value. Continental exchanges were sparse and trends declined. Foreign funds speculation slowed by news of political turmoil in the Peninsula. Share markets remained heavy as rates held from prior periods.

Prince Napoleon departs Constance amid tearful farewell crowds

A Constance letter describes Prince Louis Napoleon leaving the city at four o'clock after a long crowd bid him farewell. Citizens lined streets from Arenemburg to Constance with soldiers at gates while ladies waved handkerchiefs and mournful exclamations rang out. The Prince, middle height, 27 to 80, bears Bonaparte features and a grave, melancholy mien, his military bearing pleasing to the French. Also criticized is a London omnibus fatality verdict of accidental death for a child, with the coroner's inquiry noted as insufficient protection for lives under new law.
