A verse sketch laments Lord Vesey Fitzgerald once hailed for charm now sidelined by reform. It recalls past favors, political shifts, and a return to ease as Whigs rise and Tories scatter. The poem contrasts former influence with current mellow times and a round of conviviality.

Extraordinary phenomena and recollections across distant shores

The narrative blends a spectacular sea scene of vivid light with reflections on Lord Bacon's retreat at Gorhambury, the decay of his mansion, and panoramic musings on ruins. It includes verse from a sonnet on November and notes from an Englishman in Turkey about Mustafa, cross appointments, and changes in Ottoman conduct.
