Rights of Property and Duties in Ireland Debate

A lengthy editorial argues property rights rest on duties and condemns vague calls for confiscation as social disorganization looms in Ireland. It defends preserving private ownership, supports a strong Poor Law, and warns against removing the pillar of English law while addressing famine. It also notes Cobden Testimonial funds and a vacancy in the episcopal bench with potential bishop candidates.

Court reshuffles reported for Erle and Vaughan Williams

Rumor says Mr Justice Erle will be moved to the Court of Queen's Bench and Mr Vaughan Williams to the Common Pleas. Their roverness department will be run by the same chief with an unpaid board, unnamed here, likely reflecting party lines in the country. In the West circles, St Michael’s Mount is said to be offered £55,000 rather than the asked £75,000.
